A used eBike bought in November may go straight into winter storage. Before putting it away, make a short record of the battery that actually came with it. This will help you find the right instructions now and describe the bike accurately if you sell it later. A photograph of a bright display is useful, but it leaves several questions unanswered.
Identify the battery, not just the bicycle
Photograph the accessible battery label and write down its exact model and rated energy in Wh. Match the supplied charger to the documentation. If the bike has a replacement battery, ask when it was fitted and whether the seller has the corresponding receipt. Do not assume the bicycle’s original specification describes the battery installed today.
Keep the seller’s answers, photographs and manual together. Where a detail is unknown, write “unknown” rather than filling it in from a similar advertisement.
Choose storage conditions from the right instructions
Bosch’s care article recommends 30–60% charge and dry winter storage, preferably at 10–20°C. Check the exact battery manual before applying those figures.
These are not settings for every eBike battery. Record which manual you used, where the battery will stay and how you will follow its inspection and charging instructions. A room description such as “garage” is less useful than knowing its actual conditions. If removal requires unfamiliar work, ask a qualified dealer.
Keep charge and capacity separate
Record the displayed charge with the date. A percentage describes a charge reading, not a measurement of remaining capacity or proof of good health. Keep any capacity report in a separate field, with its date and the battery identification.
Bosch describes dealer capacity measurement using a CapacityTester. Ask the dealer what assessment is appropriate for your battery rather than interpreting one screenshot.
Make the handover record useful
- Exact battery model, label photograph and supplied charger.
- Manual link, storage location and dated charge reading.
- Known history, unresolved questions and any professional report.
Follow Bosch’s safety guidance: use compatible charging equipment and never open the housing. Missing history should remain visible in your notes, not become a confident claim in a future advertisement.
