Mopeds and scooters are excellent urban transport. Here's what to consider before you buy.
Engine size
Mopeds up to 50 cm³ - suitable with category B driver's license (if issued before 2013) or category AM. Speed up to 45 km/h.
Scooters 125 cm³ - require an A1 or B category driver's license, speed up to 100 km/h.
Larger scooters 250 cm³+ - require an A2 or A category driver's license, suitable for road use.
Purpose of use
For city driving - small, maneuverability, light, good fuel consumption.
For road driving - more powerful engine, better aerodynamics, more comfortable seating.
For cross-country driving - special tires, suspension.
Condition check
Starting the engine - cold and warm. Sounds, smoke, vibration.
Gearbox (if any) - smoothness of shifts.
Suspension - how the shock absorbers work.
Brakes - sensitivity, wear.
Electricity - lights, signal, indicators.
Documents
Check that the vehicle is registered, the technical inspection is valid, the VIN codes match. Ask for the maintenance book and invoices.
Test drive
Be sure to take a test drive - feel how the vehicle behaves, whether it is comfortable, whether all functions work.
