Introduction
An aviary is a bird's home, where it spends most of its time. Here's how to choose and furnish the right cage.
Size
The cage should be large enough for the bird to fly and move around. The rule: the bigger the better. At least 80x50x50 cm for parrots, much larger for large parrots. Consider the species and size of the bird.
Shape
A rectangular cage is best - the bird can fly in a straight line. Round cages are not suitable - the bird can't find a corner to hide in and can get stressed.
Material
The metal cage is durable and easy to clean. Painted cages must be of a bird-safe color. Avoid galvanized parts - they can be toxic. The bars of the cage must not be too wide so that the bird cannot stick its head through.
Furnishing
Splints - of different thickness, made of natural wood (apple tree, walnut tree). Plastic straws can cause foot problems.
Food utensils - ceramic or stainless steel, easy to clean.
Toys - mirrors, bells, ropes, puzzles - the bird needs mental stimulation.
Bath – Many birds enjoy splashing around in water.
Location
The cage should be located in a quiet place, protected from direct sunlight and drafts. The bird needs a clear view of the family, but also the opportunity to separate.
