Kasutatud kuivati: 7 kontrolli enne ostmist – Blog Article in Estonia

Kuidas kontrollida kasutatud kuivatit: mudel, filtrid, proovikuivatus, paigaldus ja transport. Miks vana A+++ ja uut C-klassi ei saa otse võrrelda.

Buying a second-hand tumble dryer: 7 checks before you buy

In autumn, a drying rack full of wet laundry starts taking up space at home again. A separate tumble dryer can free up that space, and buying second-hand may bring models within reach that would be beyond your budget when new. But attractive photos and a promise that it “works perfectly” are no substitute for checking.

Start with three questions: is this particular model suitable for your home, can you see it working, and do you understand the costs ahead? These seven steps will help you make an unhurried decision.

1. Ask for a photo of the rating plate

A brand name and “8 kg, energy-efficient” tell you very little. You need the exact model and product code from the rating plate. These make it easier to find the manual, specifications and suitable replacement parts. Check its age separately: a receipt or information from the manufacturer is more reliable than judging by appearances.

Ask why the dryer is being sold, what repairs it has had and whether any paperwork remains. A missing receipt does not in itself mean the appliance is faulty, but you will need to assess its history more cautiously.

Clarify the type of appliance straight away. A heat-pump dryer is also a condenser dryer: the word “condenser” in a listing does not necessarily mean it has no heat pump. A washer-dryer is a different type of appliance; this checklist is for separate tumble dryers.

2. Understand the energy label

Photos of second-hand appliances may show A++, A+++ or other ratings from the old scale. Since 1 July 2025, tumble dryers in the EU have used an updated energy label with classes from A to G. An old A+++ rating and a new C rating therefore cannot be compared directly. There is no universal rule that “A+++ now equals C”. The European Commission explains the label change.

The consumption figures have changed too. The old label shows calculated annual consumption in kWh, based on 160 cycles and including low-power modes. The new label shows weighted consumption per 100 cycles, excluding those modes. Simply comparing the two prominent numbers is misleading. See the Commission’s comparison of the old and new labels.

Look for data for your exact model, including the load, programme and measurement conditions. The QR code on the new label leads to information in the European EPREL database. If there is no label, start with the manufacturer’s documentation. Do not count on a particular saving until you know how much laundry you will dry and which programmes you will use.

3. Check the installation space before visiting the seller

Measure more than just the available recess. Check whether the dryer will fit through doorways, whether there will be room to open its door and whether you can leave the clearances specified in the manual. Find out where the condensed water goes: into a removable tank or through a drain connection supported by the model.

If you plan to stack it on a washing machine, check the compatibility of both appliances and the stacking kit against the manufacturers’ instructions. Do not assume that matching widths are enough.

An unheated balcony or cold garage is not automatically suitable either. For example, AEG’s guidance gives a room temperature range of 5–35 °C and warns that cold conditions can increase drying time. Follow the manual for the particular model you are considering.

4. Inspect the filters and accessible parts

With the dryer switched off and unplugged, inspect the door, seal, water tank and accessible filters. Look for cracks, damaged filter mesh and signs of leaks. Ask the seller to show you how they normally clean the filters and maintain the machine.

AEG recommends cleaning the lint filter after every cycle. Heat-exchanger design and maintenance vary by model: not every component can be removed or rinsed. Follow the manual and do not dismantle the casing to inspect the dryer.

A clean filter is a useful sign of care, but not proof that everything works. Heavy dirt build-up, on the other hand, is a reason to ask more about maintenance and avoid rushing into payment.

5. Arrange a drying test

An illuminated display and an empty drum turning show only part of what the dryer does. Ask in advance for a demonstration using suitable damp laundry on a programme approved for those items. Agree how long the test will take so the seller does not disconnect the machine ready for collection before you arrive.

Watch for error messages, leaks, unusual scraping noises or excessive vibration. Check the drying result and the settings used. Do not conclude that a heat-pump dryer is faulty just because it does not feel very hot.

A short test does not guarantee that the appliance is fault-free and is no substitute for a technician’s diagnosis. If a full demonstration is not possible, factor that uncertainty into your decision rather than treating the dryer as “tested”.

6. Add up all the costs, not just the asking price

Add delivery, carrying the appliance upstairs, a stacking kit if needed, and replacement of missing or damaged parts to the price of the dryer. Check in advance whether a filter or water tank can be ordered for this model and how much it costs.

When comparing electricity consumption, use comparable figures and your own electricity tariff. Manufacturer figures provide a guide, but actual results depend on the programme, load and condition of the machine. A low purchase price alone does not make a dryer good value.

7. Agree on transport before paying

Read the transport section of the manual: the dryer’s position, preparation of the water tank and any waiting period before switching it on depend on the model. A blanket suggestion to “lay it on either side and switch it on straight away” is not appropriate.

Agree who will carry the appliance out, how it will be secured in the vehicle and which accessories are included. Save the listing and messages recording your agreement so you can check the included items and stated condition when collecting it.

Quick checklist before paying

  • The exact model is known and the manual has been found.
  • Dimensions, installation space and connections have been checked.
  • The old and new energy scales have not been confused.
  • The filters, seal and water tank have been inspected.
  • Drying has been demonstrated and the test’s limitations are understood.
  • Delivery and necessary parts are included in the budget.
  • Transport arrangements and included accessories have been agreed.

A good listing helps answer these questions before you meet. If you are selling a tumble dryer, include the exact model, dimensions, real photos and an honest description of its condition. Buyers will find it easier to assess the option, and you will have fewer repeated questions to answer.
